Candle Care

The Ultimate Candle Care Guide
Proper candle care doesn't just make your space smell amazing—it ensures your candles burn safely, last longer, and never go to waste. Follow these simple tips to get the most out of your favorite fragrances.

Master the First Burn (The "Wax Memory")
The first time you light your candle is the most critical. Always allow the candle to burn long enough for the melted wax to reach all the edges of the container (usually 2 to 4 hours). This creates a full "melt pool" and ensures your candle burns evenly every time, preventing it from tunneling.

Trim the Wick
Always trim your wick to about ¼ inch (6 mm) before every single burn. Keeping the wick short helps maintain a steady flame, prevents excess smoke, and stops those unsightly black soot marks or "mushrooming" on the wick.

Burn in 2–4 Hour Intervals
While it’s tempting to leave a candle burning all evening, burning them for longer than 4 hours can cause the container to overheat and the wick to shift. For the best fragrance throw and longevity, stick to burning your candle in 2 to 4-hour intervals.

Banish the Drafts
Keep your candles away from open windows, air conditioning vents, or active ceiling fans. A steady, still flame ensures the wax melts evenly and prevents the candle from smoking or dripping unevenly.

Extinguish Safely
Instead of blowing out your candle—which causes the wax to splatter and releases smoky, burnt-scent residue—use a candle snuffer or wick dipper to extinguish the flame.

Advanced Tips & Troubleshooting
How to Fix a Tunneling Candle
If your candle has already started to tunnel (burning only down the center), don't panic! You can "tent" the top of the candle with aluminum foil, leaving a small hole in the center for the wick, and let it burn for about 1–2 hours. The trapped heat will melt the hardened wax on the outer edges and reset the wax memory.

How to Remove "Mushroom" Wicks
If your cotton wick develops a small black carbon ball at the tip, blow the candle out, let it cool completely, and simply trim off the excess ball with a wick trimmer before lighting it again.

When to Retire Your Candle
It is important to stop burning your candle when there is about ½ inch (12 mm) of wax remaining at the bottom of the vessel. Burning it all the way to the bottom can cause the container to overheat and crack.

SAFETY FIRST

Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Keep candles away from children, pets, and flammable materials (like curtains and papers).
Place candles on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface.

THE ASCENT

The path is not immediate.

Temple on the Mountain is a fragrance shaped around ascent.

The first impression is aromatic and alive: cardamom and bergamot lifted by the unexpected green intensity of oregano. At its centre, Palo Santo meets saffron and patchoui - warm, grounding and quietly meditative.

As the fragrance deepens, fir needle moves through amber and cedar wood, leaving behind the impression of cool air, ancient timber and something just beyond reach.

THE FRAGRANCE

CARDAMOM • BERGAMOT • OREGANO

PALO SANTO • SAFFRON • PATCHOULI

FIR NEEDLE • AMBER • CEDARWOOD

THE COMPOSITION

Crafted from concentrated essential oils and natural aromatics, Temple on the Mountain was developed as an immersive fragrance rather than a traditional perfumed candle.

Palo Santo brings a distinctive woody warmth to the composition - grounding and meditative - while aromatic botanicals, resinous woods and amber create a fragrance that slowly reveals itself as it burns.

THE COLLABORATION

Temple on the Mountain marks ÉDITION I: a collaboration between Atelier Francy and Sanctuary of Ananda.

Two practices meet here through fragrance - one concerned with atmosphere and the unseen architecture of scent; the other with ritual, stillness and inner journey.

The result is neither simply a candle or interpretation of a place.

It is an invitation to ascend.
